Rain in the canyon combines
my interests in real and virtual instruments. Over a
simple synthesizer bass (Muon Tau Pro through MHC Space
Effect) and some percussion (YellowTools Culture), I
played a long improvisation on a Butch Hall flute that I
had bought a while ago. The Native American flute is a
primitive instrument, excellent for pentatonic playing
but difficult to play chromatically, and barely more
than an octave range. However, it is extremely
expressive in tone. Here, the flute is processed by a
whole lot of software to intensify the mood of this
piece.
