It all adds up is my entry for this year's 60x60 project. Composers are asked to submit an original piece of 60 seconds or less.

Well, 60=2x30=3x20=4x15=5x12=6x10=10x6=12x5=15x4=20x3=30x2, so for each of the numbers 2,3,4,5,6,10,12,15,20,30 there is a player who thinks of a theme of that many beats that gets repeated until the minute is up. The last beat of the theme should be an (audible) breath, so on beat 60 of the composition everyone breathes together.

And waddayaknow, it was actually accepted. I’m part of the 2008 `Mid-West Mix’.

PS I posted this tune on some forum, and someone remarked that it would make a great “ringtone for rainman”. Ha. Yes, it has a bit of an obsessive-compulsive quality. Now of course I need to figure out how to install this as a ringtone on my iPhone.
