Hollantse Boerenlieties

Hollantse Boerenlieties

In 2016 I had a kickstarter campaign for doing a ton of arrangements of Dutch Peasantsongs and Contradances. These monophonic melodies come from an enormous bundle, actually 10 consecutively issued bundles, totally about 1000 melodies, published by Estienne Roger in Amsterdam in the 1710s.

This music probably aimed to fulfill the market for amateur home music making among the rich citizens of the Netherlands. While the pieces have fanciful titles, there are no lyrics, and I suspect that the publisher had a small factory of ghost writers churning out this stuff.

My arrangements are (almost) all quartets, but to keep things interesting, not all are SATB: there is plenty AATB, or SAAT, and even SSAA. See the table of contents. There are even pieces suitable for a quartet of crumhorns, with their range of only a ninth.

All these arrangements are available for free on IMSLP. If you want to thank me, you can buy me a coffee.
